New to Campbellsville?

Here's What's Worth Knowing.

You picked a good town to land in.

Campbellsville is small — you'll figure that out fast — but it's the kind of small town that has more going on than at first glance. The historic downtown is literally a five-minute walk from campus, and once you know what's there, you'll be going back.

This is a quick guide from the people who work on Main Street every day. No tourist spin — just what's actually worth your time. From restaurants to great little stores for Saturday shopping—downtown Campbellsville is a great place to become a regular.

Eat on Main Street

A table with several plates of pasta dishes, a wine bottle, a wine bottle holder, and a red pizza box, with greenery and a brick wall in the background.

Downtown has locally owned spots that are physically closer to campus than the fast food chains on the bypass — and you're supporting people who actually live here.

We recommend starting at Harden Coffee in the morning, Brothers Barbecue at lunch and then Bella Picolla for Italian in the evening. For those times when you just need a burger, no place is better than Druthers. For even more, check out our Dining directory.

Pro tip: Most downtown restaurants are closed on Sundays and have limited evening hours — plan accordingly, especially around midterms and finals when you're tempted to order out.

Get Outside: Trace Pitman Trail

A paved walking trail meanders through a lush green park with trees and grass on a sunny day.

If you need to clear your head, the Trace Pitman Trail is your go-to. It's a paved multi-use path that runs through Miller Park — easy walking, good for a run, and completely free. It connects to a longer trail network if you want more miles.

It's a short drive from campus, and it's the kind of place you'll end up going more than you expect.

Spend a Weekend at Green River Lake

About six miles south of town on KY-55, Green River Lake State Park is one of the most underused perks of living here. The lake has hiking trails, boat rentals, fishing, a swimming area in season, and campgrounds if you want to get out of the dorms for a night.

A group of friends, a cooler, and a free afternoon — it's a good formula.

Find Something You Actually Want to Buy

The shops on Main Street aren't what you'd expect from a small Kentucky town. A few worth knowing:

Londonberrie Paper Co.

Stationery, art supplies, hand-illustrated greeting cards, and small gifts. Good place to find something for home or to send back to family. Run by a local illustrator; the store reflects it.

Running Soles

Specialty running and walking store with gait analysis and professional fitting. If you run, race, or are just on your feet all day and your back is starting to notice, this is worth a visit. They work with local physical therapists and sponsor races in the area.

Frets Music Shop

You might be surprised that one of the best music stores in Central Kentucky is in downtown Campbellsville. Even if you’re not a guitar player, you should check out the shop and the very cool old school vibe.

5. check the events calendar

Campbellsville's downtown calendar stays full year-round — car shows, seasonal festivals, holiday celebrations, outdoor markets. We even have events specifically for university students.

Check the Events Calendar. If you're looking to get your mind off that exam you’ve got next week, that's the place to look.
